Bring a certified trainer to your first meet-and-greet

A one-hour trained-eye assessment can save you from months of behaviour headaches and heartbreak. Most Australian trainer networks offer “shelter accompaniment” as a paid service — expect $80-150 for the visit.

If you want a particular breed from a puppy, the safest path is an ANKC-affiliated ethical breeder — code-of-ethics bound, health-tested, and traceable. Below are the official state-based breeder registers.

⚠️ Avoid Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, and puppy farms. Every ANKC-registered breeder above is bound by a formal Code of Ethics with health-testing requirements.
